The Portfolio Continuum | For Countless Sleepovers 💗🩵
This project was originally designed in 2020, and it's another one that reminds me how much I've grown over the years. Looking back, I can definitely see places where today's rendering software would create softer fabrics, richer textures, and more realistic lighting.
But the design itself?
I'd happily create this room all over again. 🤍
One of my favorite parts of The Portfolio Continuum is revisiting the stories behind each project. Every family had different needs, different routines, and different ways they wanted their home to support the people they loved.
This family was no exception.
They were a beautifully blended family with two daughters living at home full time and a third daughter who came to visit. They wanted every girl to feel like she had a place to call her own, even if they weren't all under the same roof every day.
That meant one bedroom had to work a little harder.
Instead of dedicating the room to only two children, we designed a flexible space that could comfortably welcome all three girls whenever they were together. The bunk bed created separate sleeping areas while making the room feel open instead of crowded, giving everyone a cozy place to land at the end of the day.
The girls also loved spending time together after school.
Homework often turned into conversations, crafts, or giggling over whatever happened that day, so including a shared workspace was just as important as finding enough sleeping areas. The little desk tucked beneath the sloped ceiling became a place where they could study side by side, work on projects, or simply enjoy being together.
Of course, there was another design challenge waiting for me.
One daughter adored blue.
The other loved pink. 😄
Rather than choosing one color over the other, we layered both throughout the room in soft, playful ways. Cool aqua walls created a fresh backdrop while blush textiles, botanical patterns, and warm wood tones helped everything feel balanced. Neither color dominated the room, and somehow it became a space that reflected all three girls instead of just one.
Storage was another puzzle we were determined to solve.
With three girls sharing one bedroom, every inch mattered. We incorporated built-in drawers beneath the loft bed, baskets for everyday essentials, multifunctional furniture, and even organized the interiors of the closets so there was a place for everything. The goal wasn't simply to fit more into the room. It was to make everyday life feel easier.
Looking back now, I don't just see a bedroom.
I see sisters staying up too late talking from the top bunk, homework spread across the little desk, weekend visits that never felt temporary, and parents doing everything they could to make each daughter feel equally at home.
That's what this project has always meant to me.
Sometimes great design isn't about creating more space.
It's about making sure everyone has a place within it. 🤍✨
